Social Networks and Digital Evidence. See Chapter 9 of the book for further reading

Gone are the days when members of a community would gather at the local bar to discuss matters of local interest, share the latest gossip or complain about the weather. These days, millions of people are engaged in the same conversations, not at the local bars, but over keyboards in virtual communities: a social network of individuals who interact through specific social media, potentially crossing geographical and political boundaries in order to pursue mutual interests or goals.

Inherent in these virtual communities are contained, sensitive and personal data of hundreds of millions of people integrated into millions of other websites. As a result, they constitute a plethora of information and potentially an abundance of incriminating, exculpating, impeaching and mitigating evidence that impact on legal proceedings.
