  • As society’s dependence on computers and the Internet continues to grow and the global population becomes more and more “connected,” the triggers for prevalence of cybercrime become inevitable.
  • It is postulated by relevant Bureau of Labour Statistics world over that demand for computer security and investigation specialists will grow as businesses and government continue to invest heavily in cyber infrastructure and security, protecting vital computer networks and electronic infrastructures from attack.
  • The work of cybercrime investigators often aids in criminal investigations, supports lawsuits, and prevents future attacks.
  • This program is designed to fill a critical and growing need for cyber-crime investigators in the public and private sector in Nigeria.
  • Students completing this curriculum will be capable of investigating computer crimes, properly seizing and recovering computer evidence, and aiding in the prosecution of cyber criminals.

PART A Introduction to Computer, the world of Digits & Cybercrime Classification
Module 1 Functional knowledge of computers and understanding the world of digits
Module 2 IT Essentials: PC Hardware, Software, Peripherals and other digital media used in commission of cybercrime
Module 3 Cyber related crime and their classification
PART B Cyber Security fundamentals
Module 4 Fundamentals of cyber security; networks, firewalls, VPNs, system vulnerability assessment
Module 5 Security Policies and Procedures, Intrusion detection methodologies, tools and approaches to incident response
Module 6 Legal aspect of cyber security
PART C Digital Investigation Methodology
Module 7 Computer forensic principles, including operating system concepts, registry structures, file system concepts, boot process, and file operations
Module 8 Handling digital crime scenes & International best practices
Module 9 Cybercrime-specific protocol & tools for gathering evidence and obtaining information
Module 10 Cybercrime investigation Methodology, Techniques and procedure
PART D Report & Presentation of Digital Evidence in Court
Module 11 Preparing digital crime investigation reports
Module 12 Expert witness presentation & testimony in court
